About
Hey, thanks for checking out my blog.
The main topic of this blog, as you may already know, is creating a healthy lifestyle. There are of coarse many ways to do this however I chose to write about Beachbody products because that’s what I know the most about. I created this blog to give people the best resources possible and show them how to achieve maximum results. Let me know what questions you have and how I can help you reach your goals.
My History
I am going to take you way back in my life all the way to elementary school. The sound of classmates playing on the playground and the smell of sweaty kids. It was a time in my life that I start to see my peers changing. In the fourth grade I was one of the biggest kids in school. I was confused, why was I so much bigger than everyone else?
I remember talking to my mother about how I was feeling and asked what I could do. In her supportive way she said that it was just baby fat and that it would go away on its own. So I decided to just wait and see if it would go away. Well I didn’t get any smaller, I actually got even bigger.
In Physical Education class they made us run across the field and back. I was a competitive kid and wanted to be the first one back. I saw all the other kids stop and take breaks and thought if I just kept running I could be the first one back and maybe even lose a little weight at the same time.
From that moment on I never stopped to walk during a run. I do have one exception to the rule. I could stop to throw up if I needed to or other emergency situations. I became a more active kid in general and got close enough to my other classmates size where I didn’t feel like such a fatty.
Fast forward to high school where I joined the water polo team as a freshman and really got in the best shape of my life. As a senior I was the cockiest kid in my school with a 6% body fat and a six pack that you could do your laundry on.
I did have a problem though. I ate crappy food if I ate at all and worked out every chance I could get. I over trained and fueled my body with garbage. As a teenager I could eat anything and I did.
Then I got married and life changed. My wife Kellie likes to bake and she let me test out all her recipes. Cookies, brownies, chocolate cakes, and anything else I asked nicely for. Four years goes by where the only activity I got was walking to the fridge to get a snack. I was anything but active. I weighed in at 205 lbs. my height of 5′ 11″ put my BMI at 28.6 which was less than 2 points away from being considered obese. I lost control and lost all confidence. I felt like I did when I was a kid. Fat, lazy and embarrassed to take my shirt off in public. I had a low self-esteem and was the heaviest I had ever been in my life.
When we had our first child I started a new job fighting wildland fire for the BLM. I decided it was time to get back in shape. I knew from my experience working out in high school how much work it was going to take. It was going to be anything but easy but I didn’t care. I needed a change and I needed it fast.
A friend at my previous job told me about Beachbody and P90X. He talked about what an amazing program it was and how much weight I could lose. I needed the structure that an in home routine could give me so I bought the program. I gave Tony Horton 90 days of my life and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. To be disciplined to keep pushing play when you are sore and tired is tough. But the pain was worth it.
I lost 15 lbs. the first time and 21 lbs. the second. I got my weight to 169 lbs. and let me tell you it hurt both times. I loved it though and that’s how the relationship is, a love hate relationship. In all I lost 36 pounds and was ready to start my new job fighting fire.
I will be honest I was not the best at following the program. I fumbled and made mistakes but each time I learned and kept pushing play. It is okay to not be perfect but it is not okay to give up. Keep going and Keep trying you will succeed in the end.
I learned a lot of things working out to P90X and I continue to learn more each day. You can see what I am doing now by checking out my page, What’s Jared Doing?
